For those who want a Wrangler with bits of the Sahara and Rubicon trims in it

by , on

Jeep's relation with Moab is about to go on a new level with the introduction of the Jeep Wrangler Moab Edition. Based on the four-door Jeep Wrangler Sahara, the Wrangler Moab Edition is offered with a smorgasbord of features, some of which it shares with the rugged - and more upscale — Wrangler Rubicon trim. The Jeep Wrangler Moab Edition essentially sits between the Sahara and Rubicon trims, providing customers with another Wrangler option to choose from.

What makes the 2019 Jeep Wrangler Moab Edition special?

On the surface, the Jeep Wrangler Moab Edition looks like, well, a Jeep Wrangler. There are nine — nine! — color options to choose from, including Granite Crystal, Billet Silver, Black, Bright White, Sting Gray, Ocean Blue Metallic, Firecracker Red, Punk'n Metallic, and my personal favorite, Mojito!

Look closer, though, and you'll see why this model has been designated as a special edition.

It's based on the four-door Wrangler Sahara trim, but it gets a good amount of parts from the higher-range Rubicon trim.

The front section, in particular, features Rubicon hood and bumpers, right down to the removable end caps. Low-Gloss Black accents are standard on the Moab Edition Wrangler. You'll see them on the headlight surrounds, grille throats, and tow hooks. A body-color hard top also comes as standard, though you can opt for the Dual Top Group or Sky One-Touch power top if you prefer those options.

Move to the side, and you'll notice that the Sahara's side steps are gone. In their place are the Rubicon's rock rails, though if those rails are too sophisticated for you, Jeep can bolt the Sahara's side steps back in place at no cost. That said, who wouldn't want those rock rails on their Jeep Wranglers? Anyone? No one?

The side of the Wrangler's hood also comes with a big Moab decal for everyone to see. As if the Wrangler Moab Edition isn't exclusive enough on its own, the decal will serve as a good reminder that we're not just dealing with a standard-issue Wrangler here. This is the Moab Edition, and it can get down and dirty with the best of 'em.

The changes don't just end in the exterior, either.

Step inside the Wrangler Moab Edition, and you're going to be welcomed by a cabin that's dressed to the nines in fancy leather.

The seats, for example, are leather-trimmed. The dashboard gets in on the leather, too, with contrast stitching thrown in for good measure. The cabin is heavy on the tech equipment, as well. A nine-speaker premium Alpine system and an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen with navigation capabilities come as standard on the special edition Wrangler. Oh, we can't forget about the all-weather slush mats, too, can we?

In the event that all these features aren't enough to satisfy your thirst for exclusivity, you can also opt to include the Cold Weather Group, a package that consists of heated front seats and steering wheel and remote start, Trailer Tow, and Trail Rail cargo management system.

Powering the Jeep Wrangler Moab Edition is a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V-6 Pentastar engine that produces 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque.

The engine doesn't get any bump in output because of the Moab Edition's special edition status, but it's still potent enough in standard form to help you get to where you need to go.

Jeep has yet to show the price tag for the Wrangler Moab Edition. That said, the standard Wrangler Sahara trim starts at $38,295. Once you account for the limited edition status of the Wrangler Moab Edition and all the parts it culled from the Rubicon, you can expect the special edition Wrangler's price tag to easily exceed $40,000.

Kirby's first exposure into the world of automobiles happened when he caught Knight Rider on television as a five-year old boy. David Hasselhoff didn't leave much of an impression on him (that happened later on in Baywatch), but KITT certainly did. To this day, Kirby remains convinced that he will one day own a car with the same 'spirit' as the original KITT (not the 2008 monstrosity). He doesn't know when that will be, but until then, he's committed to expressing his love for KITT, and all cars for that matter, here at TopSpeed.  Read full bio
