It is amazing that car manufacturers have even come up with the concept of designing a one-seater car. At least with a one-seater car, you eliminate the constant chatter of passengers, and you don't have to contend with back seat drivers or anything that will distract you from enjoying your ride. Your kids can't ride in the car, so you can benefit from a super clean ride. There are actually some really good advantages to having a one-seater car in your garage, and you may just want to consider getting one.
Unfortunately, despite the many benefits, not many people know about the cars, and there are actually not too many of them on the market. Some persons may argue that a car's purpose is to transport persons from one place to the next. Is it serving its purpose if it is not transporting more than one person? This article will present 20 of the coolest one-seater cars for you to consider purchasing. Even if you get one with smaller seats, they are only suitable for persons without legs.
20 Carver One
This is a vehicle that you may find yourself questioning and asking, "what is it?" because you're not exactly sure if it's a bike or a car.
This quirky vehicle is stylish, yet very expensive, especially considering that its engine has only 68hp.
The car is very elegant and may remind you a bit of an ice skater as it leans when it goes around corners. This car is in no way boring, and if you are hoping for a head turner, then this car may just be the one.
19 Tramontana R
This car looks like a race car and something that you will definitely enjoy driving in alone, although it is available in a version that comes with two seats. The design is minimalist, but its wheels are heavier than a formula car, but it is lighter than a Lamborghini. Because it's light and outfitted with a 720 hp engine, this car is going to be fast, and satisfy your need for speed. It's also going to cost you a whack to purchase.
18 BAC Mono
This car is actually a "street-legal race car", and one of the best-designed cars in history. It has an engine with 285 horsepower and you can drive up to 170 miles per hour on it.
It has a lightweight body and its design is surprisingly practical.
The steering is not removable, and the driver is not tortured by the use of the swivel seat. For some, it may be a little too much to handle, but this is definitely a pretty cool single seat car that you can consider getting.
17 Vanwall GPR-12
Vanwall cars were meant to be race cars, so it is no surprise that this replica of the 1950s car has a single seat. In its time, the GPR-12 was known for being a single seat car. It was also used for racing. Though these cars are becoming a bit difficult to find, nowadays, you can purchase its replica that comes outfitted with the Jaguar V12 engine. The car may just be something that you want to keep in a car collection, and not necessarily something to take on the road.
16 Formula Ford Eco-boost
At one point in its history, Ford created race cars that could be legally driven on the streets. The difference between this car and the others on the list may be that it is a lot easier to obtain.
Despite it being relatively easy to obtain, these cars retail for $75,000.
Few people would actually be willing to purchase a car that costs that much money but can only transport one person. Besides the cost, the minimalist car is turbocharged, yet eco-friendly.
15 Honda Project 2 & 4
This little car, revealed in 2015, only weighs 405 kg but could rev up to 14,000,000 rpm and it seats one person, though some models are capable of seating two persons. But very few would actually want to sit in a passenger seat that's floating. The car is just a concept, that is motorbike inspired, but one can only hope that Honda will mass-produce the selfish car for those who prefer to ride alone. It does look more like a dirt-bike than an actual car.
14 Lamborghini Egoista
It would have truly been unfortunate if Lamborghini failed to make the list of the coolest one-seater cars. But to afford this car will require that you be a millionaire or someone with good credit.
This car has 600 horsepower output and is street legal.
It is small on the inside, and anyone driving the car has to remove the steering in order to get in, which is a lot of work. The car's design though was inspired by fighter jets and airplanes.
13 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon
Everyone at some point has dreams of driving some sort of muscle car or even a Dodge Challenger. It's not really necessary for you to own it, but just to at least send it for a test drive. The SRT Demon is not the car to buy if you want to have passengers as the seats are removed in an effort to make the car lighter. The fewer persons in the car, the faster it would go. Its standard version comes with one seat. Seats of course can be added, but most would likely keep it at one passenger for race day.
12 Mazda Miata Mono Posto
Despite its rather unique design, this car is one of the few street-legal cars of its type, and it is made by a major car manufacturer, and not intended to be a street-legal race car.
The car was issued in 2000, but never really became a hit, because there were just too many issues ranging from having no roof, windows or even a radio!
It also lacked the power needed to give it an edge over competitors. The car was a failure as it wasn't really practical for different weather conditions.
11 Mini Hotrod
This cool little car doesn't drive faster than 50 miles per hour. However, they are legal to drive on the streets of Germany. It was designed for people to get the feel of riding a motorcycle after drinking a few cold ones, but what's the point of having a fun and cool ride, if your friends can't come in for a fun, brazen lift home! Well, it certainly allows the driver, to get home without having to make any unwanted detours.
10 SUB Three-wheeler
This car was actually not that popular. Its lack of popularity probably had to do with the fact that it lacked a roof or windows and would only be practical in sunny weather. Also, the car's passenger seat was taken up by its engine. Despite its design flaws, the three-wheeled car is pretty cool to look at with its silver paint job, orange nose,and red lined rims. It is a car that may only be ideal for the dry season in tropical countries.
9 Palatov DP1
This go-kart sized car has an unbelievable four-wheel drive terrain. What makes this car ideal, apart from being a single seat car, is its design that allows you to see the car's hardware from the outside.
Further, the supercar is V-8 powered.
Though the car won at Pike's Peak last year for being the Unlimited Classic, its manufacturer is building different versions to give customers a bit more choice. Soon, you will have different iterations that may be more suitable to your pocket.
8 Exomotive Atomic
This car is cool, yet goofy looking, but it has some major design flaws, that will prevent it from being a car that you purchase. It has an open-air motor, placed on what should be the passenger side of the car. Despite the issues with the placement of the motor, the car was street-legal and seemed like it would have been a fun drive. However, due to its flawed design, the buggy likecar did not last long on the market and was swept under the rug".
7 Neander Cyclecar
No one would find fault with you if you think this car looks like a bit of a bicycle. Its design is particularly unusual, and it actually has three wheels! The car was never really popular, and this may be because it required the driver to "pull on the wheel to brake". Some may think, that doing that took too much effort. Despite the effort required to operate the machine, its design is very intuitive and just may be something that you can hope is road worthy.
6 Rinspeed Advantige R1
The Rinspeed R1 is a futuristic car in its design. The car can be legally driven on the streets and is likely to get a lot of looks and stares from passersby.
What makes this car fun to drive is its floating cockpit that shifts with every corner the driver takes.
The movement may put you off, but if you want an eye-catching car, that is fun to drive, you will want to consider getting yourself the Rinspeed R1 to enjoy your solo car rides.
5 Peel P50
This is probably one of the smallest cars that you will ever see according to the Guinness World Records in 2010. The car is three-wheeled, and it is a bit difficult to believe that it was legal to drive such a small car that didn't even have a reverse gear. The car was intended for use in the city, and its lightweight design allowed it to be maneuvered easily and physically if required. The car is compact and very uncomfortable. If you get one, it may mean that you are really just that selfish.
4 Mazda Suitcase Car
This car is definitely cool, even if you don't think it is. But the concept is amazing. This car actually fits into a suitcase or has a built-in suitcase. The car is actually designed for businessmen to get from Point A to B, when on their business trips by simply opening the suitcase and driving the car wherever they needed to go. It looks really awkward, not to mention unsafe, but the thought is a good one, though you may still prefer to be transported safely in an Uber.
3 McLaren F1 GTR 'Longtail' FIA GT Endurance Racing Coupe
It may surprise you that this car has one seat considering that some of the versions of this car have three seats.
This car was designed for racing, so it should come as no surprise that it has a single seat.
Its design and aerodynamics maximize speed. So, having more than one person in the car will defeat the purpose for which it was designed. Technically, the car is legal, and it may be just as fun to drive as it looks.
2 Electra Meccanica Solo
This car can be described as half of a car. Well, it certainly looks that way from the outside. It is relatively new on the market, but despite its single seat, there is still some room in the back to place anything valuable or anything that you may need on your car-ride. It has three wheels, and if you live in Canada, it is completely legal to drive. The car is totally electric and designed especially for the environmentally conscious.
1 Geely GE Limousine
Technically, this vehicle isn't a single seater, but it makes the list because the limousine is designed around a single throne, for the esteemed passenger sitting behind the glass screen. There is room for two persons up front, but the back only has room for one person, making it impossible for the passenger to offer anyone a ride in their limousine. Despite its selfish design, the passenger can still benefit from access to a wine cabinet. This car is basically designed to only carry one very important person. Up front are their driver and perhaps their purse dog.
